Use Your GTIIT Account for Office 365 Only (Not for Windows Login)

GTIIT accounts (for example, username@gtiit.edu.cn) are provided for signing in to Microsoft 365 apps and services only – such as Outlook, Teams, OneDrive, and the Office desktop suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.). It must NOT be used to sign in to your Windows operating system on personal computers.

If you accidentally connected your GTIIT account to Windows on your personal device, please follow the steps below to remove it. This will prevent your device from being automatically joined to GTIIT’s organizational management system or having university policies applied.

  1. Remove your GTIIT account from Windows by opening Settings from the Start menu (gear icon).
  2. Go to Accounts Access work or school.
  3. Click on your GTIIT account, then select Disconnect.

  4. Confirm the action when prompted.
  5. Wait for the unenrollment process to complete. Make sure you’re connected to the internet during this step, as it does not retry automatically.
Note: Windows might already have applied device management policies (for example, password/PIN complexity or sign-in restrictions). These may not be undone immediately even after removal.
  6. Restart your computer to ensure that all policy and account changes are fully applied.
  7. After restarting, open any Microsoft 365 app (for example, Word or Outlook).
  8. When prompted to sign in, enter your GTIIT account (username@gtiit.edu.cn).
  9. When you see the message “Allow my organization to manage my device”, uncheck this option before proceeding, and click "No, sign in to this app only". This ensures your personal computer will not be registered under GTIIT’s device management.

  10. Contact IT Support again if you are still having trouble.
