What To Do After You Change Your GTIIT Password

Password Expiration Email Is Legitimate

You may receive an e-mail with the subject “Password Expiration Notice” from Password Management pwm@gtiit.edu.cn.
This message is not a phishing attempt. GTIIT’s identity-management system automatically generates it to remind you that your account password will expire soon and must be changed.

  • The message includes the link https://account.activedirectory.windowsazure.com/ChangePassword.aspx, which is the official Microsoft 365 password-change page used by GTIIT.

  • If you are unsure whether an e-mail is genuine, forward it to itsupport@gtiit.edu.cn and we will verify it for you.

  • After you change your password, please follow the steps below to update your devices and keep access to Wi-Fi, printers, and other GTIIT services.

If you have already updated your password, continue with the next section.

Who should read this?

All GTIIT staff and students who have been reminded to complete the annual password change.

Why these extra steps matter?

Your new password does not reach every GTIIT service at the same moment. Clearing stored credentials and reconnecting prevents lock-outs while the sync completes.

a. Update your Wi-Fi connections

  1. On every phone, tablet, or laptop:

    • Open the list of saved networks.

    • Select eduroam and tap Forget / Remove.

    • Select GTIIT-SEC and tap Forget / Remove.

  2. Reconnect:

    • eduroam → sign in with your full GTIIT email address and the new password.

    • GTIIT-SEC → sign in with your username only (no “@gtiit.edu.cn”) and the new password.

  3. GTIIT office, lab, or classroom PCs:

    • At the Windows sign-in screen click the Wi-Fi icon in the lower right-hand corner.

    • Connect to eduroam or GTIIT-SEC with the new password before you attempt to log on. This lets the computer recognise your updated credentials.

b. Reconnect to public printers (Staff only)

  1. Refer to the full instructions provided at Add GTIIT Printers Into Your Computer.

  2. Follow the on-screen wizard to re-map printers.

  3. Send a small test page to confirm printing works.

c.  Re-authenticate in other GTIIT services

After changing your password you may be asked to sign in again when you open:

  • Outlook, Mail app, or any mobile mail client

  • Moodle, Panopto, VPN, intranet portals

  • Any app that uses your GTIIT account

Simply enter the new password when prompted. If prompts keep returning, remove the saved account/credentials and add it back.
