The main benefit of MFA is to enhance our organization's security by requiring GTIIT members to identify themselves by more than a username and password. While important, usernames and passwords are vulnerable to brute force attacks and can be stolen by third parties. Please refer to this instruction and set up your own MFA verification method with Authenticator app.
Microsoft Authenticator is the recommended app for this process, it can be downloaded via:
Note: Microsoft Authenticator might not be available for some of the Android phones in China mainland, you can instead use:
- Login to https://outlook.office365.com on a web browser. Enter your full email address (e.g. username@gtiit.edu.cn) and click “Next”.
- You will see the following screen. Click "Next".
-
From "Which method would you like to add?", Choose "Authenticator app" and click "Add".
- Choose to use Authenticator app. And when you see the following screen, open the Microsoft Authenticator app on your mobile.
-
On your phone, open the Microsoft Authenticator app. If you are using other OTP apps like Google Authenticator, on-screen steps are very similar.
Click “+” on top-right corner to add an account and choose “Work or school account”. When prompted, choose "Scan QR code".
-
Scan the QR code on the computer. (Notes: iPhone users may have to enable the camera in Settings in order to scan.) A 6-digit code will be shown up, action is completed.
-
Click “Next” on your computer and wait for the configuration to complete, then click "Done". You will receive a notification on your device where you have the Authenticator app.
-
Switch back to your mobile device and you will receive a notification.
- Click “Approve” on the app as the step of verification. Back to your computer, when the "Notification Approved" message shows, click "Next".
- In some apps (such as Outlook, Apple Mail), you might not be able to use a phone to secure your account. Copy and save the password for use with this kind of apps. For details, please refer to GTIIT Account MFA With App Password.
