Print From Android Phones Using GTIIT Staff Printers

These instructions explain how our staff and PG students print from Android phones to the GTIIT shared staff printers and then release the job on a public MFP.

Before you begin

  • GTIIT printers are available only inside the GTIIT network. Please do not use any personal VPN, proxy or accelerator when you print.
  • Connect your phone to Wi-Fi "eduroam" or "GTIIT-SEC" with your GTIIT account. Mobile data will not work.
  • This method works on Android phones that use the standard Google Play framework (for example Samsung, Google Pixel or international versions of other brands).
  • Phones bought in mainland China that are heavily customised, such as many Xiaomi, Huawei, Oppo or Vivo models, often do not work reliably with this method. For those devices, we strongly recommend using a computer or using GTIIT Web Print - How To Print From Your Own Device instead.

Install Mobility Print on Android

  1. Open Google Play Store on your phone and search for "PaperCut Mobility Print".

  2. Install the app and open it once. Follow the prompts until it shows that Mobility Print Service is enabled and Notification option is turned ON.

  3. Make sure your phone stays connected to "eduroam" or "GTIIT-SEC" and that no VPN is running.

Send a print job from Android

  1. Open the document, web page or email you want to print.
  2. Choose the print option in that app (usually Menu - Print, or Share - Print).

  3. When the printer list appears, select the GTIIT printer, for example "Staff-Print-Q" for black and white or "Staff-ColorPrint-Q" for color.

  4. If you are prompted for a username and password, enter gtiit\username as the username, and your GTIIT password.

  5. Adjust the number of copies and other options, then tap Print.
  6. If your phone does not show any GTIIT printers or cannot complete the job, please switch to a computer or use the Web Print portal by following GTIIT Web Print - How To Print From Your Own Device.

Release your print job at the printer

  1. Go to a GTIIT public printer on campus and please follow the instructions at How To Use GTIIT Public Staff Printers (Multi-Functional Photocopier)
  2. Tap your staff or student card on the card reader, or log in with your GTIIT account on the screen.
  3. Find your held job in the list, check the document name and cost if shown, and release it to print.
  4. Log out from the device after printing.
